Road Re-surfacing

The roads within Ifold were last surfaced in 2015 with an expected service life of 5 years. Having been able to extend this to a 6th year, the time is now due to undertake the major road resurfacing.

The works for the whole of Ifold Estate are planned to be completed over three days on 4th, 5th & 6th of May (weather permitting), the first two days for preparation and the third day for tar & chip surfacing. The disruption on each individual road will be limited to a few hours and we will provide further communications via our website (and Facebook) as the timings are firmed up.

We respectfully ask that residents make efforts to plan around the disruption on these dates by avoiding deliveries or parking on the roads, and also help us by letting us know of any issues in advance. Note that Ifold Stores is now able to receive parcel deliveries on behalf of residents, and so we recommend to make use of this service to avoid ad hoc delivery drivers running into roadblocks.

The remaining stone chips will be swept away the following week, and white line markings reinstated. Our contractor has advised that for the best result we should avoid large vehicles utilising the roads for the week following resurfacing, so up to 13th May effectively.

The Highways authority have been informed of this maintenance programme.

  1. May I assume that this will be publicised other than through the dreaded Facebook. I would have expected notices on posts along the roads and even individual circulars to all houses. We need a detailed plan of the work so that we can make any alternative arrangements for access and egress if necessary.

  2. Please be aware that we are having extensive roofing works done at our house, Bradstock, Chalk Road, commencing on 4th May and will require access at all times. Please confirm that you will be able to work around this.

    Kind regards Rita Melcio

  3. Hello Rita,

The prep working during 4th & 5th of May will be multiple small tasks spread all of the village, so the roads will be busier than normal, but the disruption will be minimal.

The surfacing on 6th will cause an impassable blockage at the point where the tar & chip is being deployed, but note that this is a rolling blockage. The contractor needs to cover 4km in 8 hours so will be moving along Chalk Road at 500m per hour. So there will be a period of blockage on Chalk Road, but limited to about an hour.

The following provisional schedule has been provided by the resurfacing contractor.
    7:30am – 9:00am – The Ride
    9:00am – 10:00am – Hogwood Road
    10:00am – 11:30am – The Lane
    11:30am – 1:00pm – Ifold Bridge lane
    1:00pm – 2:00pm – Chalk Road
    2:00pm – 2:30pm – Wildacre Close
    2:30pm – 3:00pm – The Close
    3:00pm – 5:00pm – The Drive

Timings are subject to change due to operational reasons or circumstances beyond the contractors control. With that in mind, we would recommend to avoid planning any movements from Bradstock after lunch

  4. Hello,
I am wondering about the noise level. I am recording a workshop 9.30-11.30 on 5th. I live on the Plaistow end of The Ride.
Are you able to let me know please?

  5. Hi.
I have ordered a heating oil delivery week ago but don’t know the date yet. It’ll be likely those dates. I cannot turn it away as I will run out of oil. The notice of roadworks came through quite late and it put me in difficult position. The delivery date is usually non negotiable as they come to area to deliver the lot. For the future can the information like this be distributed earlier please. 2 working days does not seem sufficient.
    Isabella
